Kyle Verreynne hit a resistant century to safely shepherd Nottinghamshire to a draw in their Rothesay County Championship clash with Warwickshire and maintain their unbeaten start to the 2026 season.
Verreynne, who hit the six that sealed the Championship title at Trent Bridge last September, ground out a gritty 115, while Joe Clarke contributed 82.
The South African world Test champion’s innings helped the hosts calmly bat out the entirety of day four by moving from 310-4 to 537-7 before the draw was agreed upon at 4:50pm.
It was the partnership between Clarke and Verreynne that set the Green and Golds on their way to a comfortable conclusion, as the duo batted through the entire morning unscathed.
They ultimately added 180 for the fifth wicket across almost 40 full overs as both went to chanceless half-centuries shortly before lunch.
That in turn heralded the end of a wicketless, 102-run session, and the momentum continued to shift as the total passed 400 and the stand reached 150 either side of the first break.
Clarke did fall to Rob Yates’ off-spin while Verreynne was five short of his ton, but the South African was unmoved and went on to crunch three figures in 208 balls, with eight fours.
It was the culmination of over four hours in the middle, and as he acknowledged the applause with a bow, the hosts continued to bat on with the stalemate becoming ever more likely.
Gloomier conditions, with the floodlights switched on, brought two more wickets - one of which was Verreynne himself, unlucky to be bowled by one that kept low from Beau Webster.
However, Lyndon James’ unbeaten 33, and Brett Hutton’s late cameo of 11 not out, kept Notts on course, and at the earliest opportunity, the handshakes came to confirm the draw.
