Superb hundreds from Kathryn Bryce (136) and Georgia Elwiss (134*), a career-best, helped The Blaze to their highest List A team total of 356-4 as they consolidated their place at the top of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup table.
The Blaze secured their 10th win in 12 matches, beating Durham by 59 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after a mid-afternoon downpour at Trent Bridge. The visitors were bowled out for 217 in pursuit of a revised target of 277 from 34 overs.
Blaze captain Kirstie Gordon took 4-54 and Grace Ballinger 3-44 to quell Durham's spirited fightback, with Mady Villiers and Bess Heath having threatened to keep the visitors in the contest.
Scotland captain Bryce and 35-year-old former England all-rounder Elwiss shared a partnership of 233, another record for The Blaze and a competition record for the third wicket in the women’s One-Day Cup.
The Blaze, having been asked to bat first, were 55-2 when Bryce and Elwiss took charge, finding the boundary regularly as Durham’s bowlers offered width on both sides of the wicket. They took just 14 overs to complete a 100-run partnership, before doubling it in another 14.
Bryce’s hundred, her first since September last year and sixth in List A cricket, came off 117 balls with 11 fours, many punched square of the wicket on the off side; the resourceful Elwiss was quicker to her ton, 89 balls, with 14 fours, as she posted her first for The Blaze.
They were finally parted when Bryce was trapped in front trying to reverse-sweep the off-spin of Scotland teammate Katherine Fraser.
Elwiss surpassed her previous best of 115 for Southern Vipers, adding a further 34 runs in just 37 balls alongside Ireland international Orla Prendergast (27 off 18).
Gordon bowled Mia Rogers to leave Durham 43-1 after 10 overs, before the rain arrived. On the restart, Hollie Armitage found a fielder second ball, and wickets continually fell throughout the innings.
Six of Durham’s wickets were bowled, as Gordon ripped through the top order to claim a season-best four-wicket haul, while the seam attack took the other six wickets between them.
Ballinger returned with the old ball to pick up three wickets after the rain break, while Kathryn Bryce forced an in-form Villiers (65) to play on with a deceptive delivery pushed wide of off-stump.
Charley Phillips took the final two wickets, including Heath (57), to extend her lead at the top of the wicket-taking charts.
The bonus-point victory sees The Blaze extend their lead at the top of the One-Day Cup table, with the team travelling to Birmingham next week to face Warwickshire.
