Orla Prendergast feels versatility will be key as The Blaze look to consolidate their place at the top of the Metro Bank One Day Cup table.

The Ireland all-rounder is part of a 14-strong squad which will travel to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire (10.30am, Wednesday 26 August).

Prendergast made a quickfire 27 as The Blaze tallied 356/4 against Durham, a record score for the side in 50-over cricket, but she is prepared to maker an impact over a longer period of time if required.

“Being versatile is one of the main things I try to be with bat and ball,” she said.

“Last time, I came in with very little time to bat and just tried to play with intent from ball one.

“But on the flip side, earlier in the season I had innings where I came in with a lot more time to bat and a bit more of a bigger role to play.

“I think it’s just about being prepared for anything. With the way 50 over cricket pans out, you don't know what's going to come your way.”

The eventual margin of victory over Durham was 59 runs, as the visitors were restricted to 217 all out in a rain-shortened contest.

And Prendergast believes confidence is coursing through the side following their successful return to one-day cricket.

“There’s a really positive feeling,” she said.

“I think to start back like that, as we did against Durham, was a pretty perfect start, so we’ll take momentum from that.

“But at the same time, you always start on zero the next day, and tomorrow will be another big challenge.

“We know they’re a quality side and I think they’ve got a chance of getting through to the finals.

“So we’re all guns blazing for it.”

A seasoned campaigner at List A level, Prendergast feels her side have the tools to face whatever challenge awaits in the West Midlands.

“50-over cricket can sway either way at times,” she said.

“If they get a big partnership together with the bat, we know that we have bowlers who can break those partnerships and that can cause trouble in the middle, which is really important

“Similarly with the bat, if we lose early wickets, I think we have players that can come in and  consolidate, so I think we're well set all around.”
