Steven Mullaney has joined England Under-19s’ coaching staff ahead of the World Cup in Namibia and Zimbabwe, which begins later this week.
Former all-rounder Mullaney, 39, made over 450 appearances in all formats during a 14-season spell with Nottinghamshire, filling the role of Club Captain between 2018 and 2023.
Since retirement, he has transitioned into coaching, and currently serves as the Second XI Head Coach at Trent Bridge.
“I’m thrilled to take on this really exciting role, which represents a great opportunity for me to continue my coaching journey,” said Mullaney.
“I’m really looking forward to working with some of the most promising cricketers in the country as they take to the global stage.”
A former England Under-19 international himself, Mullaney appeared in the World Cup in 2006, playing five matches as England reached the semi-finals.
He has joined up with the Young Lions squad, which includes Farhan Ahmed in the role of vice-captain, ahead of their first game against Pakistan on Friday.
Further group stage matches, all in Harare, will then follow against hosts Zimbabwe on Sunday, and Scotland next Wednesday, before the knockout stages commence on Sunday 25th.
“The chance to continue working with Farhan is a great opportunity too, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he gets on in his first World Cup,” continued Mullaney.
“I remember being in the same position at the beginning of my career, so it’s a really exciting chance to continue to guide his development, as well as that of the entire England squad.”
