Ben Duckett was happy to feel the benefit of a home Trent Bridge crowd in The Hundred for the first time, as his 75 helped Trent Rockets to a nailbiting win over London Spirit.

The England left-hander is in his eighth season with Nottinghamshire, but has only ever visited Trent Bridge in The Hundred as part of an away side before this summer.

And he was delighted with the sea of yellow that greeted him.

“The crowd were amazing,” he said.

“I've only been an away player in The Hundred here before, but I know the support here is always awesome, so I'm really happy I got the win for them.

“I’m really happy with how the competition has started personally. If you get a couple of low ones early in a tournament then you can find yourself chasing a score a bit, so it’s really good to start well.”

Duckett heaped praise on Craig Overton, whose 20 runs from six balls ensured the Rockets weathered a late flurry of wickets to prevail with two balls to spare.

“There was no doubt that he was going to go and do it,” he said.

“He’s been unbelievable for Somerset this year, so with him walking out, hitting downwind and facing his brother, I knew we had a chance.

“It was obviously a bit tighter than it might have been, losing a few wickets in the middle, and I should have seen us over the line, but it’s really crucial to get over the line in games like that.

“With people like him and Calvin [Harrison] in the hut, who got 12 off 2 in the last game, so we know we bat down the order.

“We prioritise the top five to get a matchwinning contribution, so hopefully we don’t need Craig too much, but we know he can do it.”
