Ben Duckett franked his early-season form with an unbeaten 203 as Nottinghamshire and Surrey drew an absorbing and at-times high-intensity Rothesay County Championship clash at Trent Bridge.

It was not just the sixth double hundred of his First-Class career, containing 23 fours and a six and spanning just over six hours, but also his first at Trent Bridge.

Having trailed by 34 on first innings, Duckett’s unbeaten marathon allowed Notts to reach 414-4 when the sides agreed to call it a day, with the hosts leading by 380.

Both take 13 points from the match, which is enough to keep Nottinghamshire top of the Division One table after five matches.

With Nottinghamshire 99-1 overnight, leading by 65, the requirement was simply to bat for long enough to increase the size of that advantage.

Jordan Clark did have Ben Slater caught behind for 50, but the in-form left-hander still took his aggregate above 500 for the season to remain the third-highest scorer in Division One.

Clarke remains atop that particular chart with 734, and he passed fifty for the sixth consecutive innings shortly before lunch.

However, a testing spell by Dan Worrall after the break denied him the chance to build on it substantially as he fell lbw for 59.

There was no denying Duckett on this occasion, though, as his 31st first-class hundred - also his 11th for Nottinghamshire - arrived six overs into the afternoon, off 166 balls with 14 fours.

His hundred steered Nottinghamshire into a position of strength that they never let up on, with century partnerships alongside both Clarke and Jack Haynes putting the game to bed.

The stand with Haynes, who made 53 before being run out at the non-striker’s end, was worth 122, narrowly beating the 119 Duckett had added with Clarke.

At tea, the hosts had pushed past 350, with the lead beyond 300, and all that was left was to allow Duckett to reach his double-hundred.

With Surrey turning to occasional bowlers at the conclusion, he did so with a lofted one-bounce four driven down the ground, with play then called off at the end of that over.
