Marie Kelly says “every game is a great opportunity” as The Blaze aim to continue an all-conquering run against Hampshire at Trent Bridge on Friday (10:30am).

“It’s always a good game against Hampshire with lots of skills on show, but I think we're in such a great place as a team,” said Kelly.

“When the mood is this high, we all want to try and capitalise on that and get another win.

“Everybody is contributing in different ways which is always a good sign, and that helps with our confidence, both in ourselves and in others!”

Kelly retains her place in an unchanged 13-strong squad for a clash between the sides that currently occupy the top two places in the Metro Bank One Day Cup table.

Right-hander Kelly has enjoyed something of a purple patch to start the season, and she describes herself as “really happy” with her returns so far.

“In terms of the work I’ve done recently, I think that was more done over previous winters with a lot of technical work on my backlift and balance,” she explained.

“With those foundations, I've been able to work on execution and picking up length better, which has translated really well so far, combined with having confidence in my set-up.”

In a wider sense, Kelly also says The Blaze have confidence in one another’s games as a product of a winning run that now numbers five games in length.

That, she says, is only a positive as they continue their methodical preparation for each opponent in a bid to stretch their victorious run further still.

“We go into each game very organised and planned with an ability to react to things as we see them unfold, which has been key to our success so far this year,” explained Kelly.

“We're getting really good as a team at picking up on that in the moment and reacting to momentum changes quickly in the game.”

The subject of quick changes could hardly be more appropriate heading into the Trent Bridge meeting with Hampshire, either.

The showdown will be both sides’ second game in the space of three days, and Kelly explains how off-field rest and recuperation is key to performance in such a packed schedule.

“Recovery is definitely key for us in this phase. We use ice baths and saunas a lot and need to fuel well between games,” she said.

“We have to make sure we have high quality nutrition, so the body is good to go again fairly quickly!

“It is also important to mentally switch off from the game, so we feel a bit more raring to go for the next one.”

Raring to go, Kelly certainly is, though, as she freely admits that the setting for the top-two clash adds an extra special flavour.

“Trent Bridge is such a fantastic place to play cricket,” she said.

“I always enjoyed coming to watch the Blast when I was younger, so it still feels very cool to play at such a historic venue.

“We feel very well backed by the members  and supporters too which always helps when you’re walking out to the middle!

“I also can’t wait for the new pavilion to be finished too and be a part of the team that gets to use that space!”
