Stand-in captain Marie Kelly praised The Blaze’s strength in depth after a four-wicket win over Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

“I'm really pleased with that win as a team,” said Kelly. “It’s just pleasing when you get over the line.

“Obviously, we've lost a couple of players to the World Cup, so I think it shows the strength and quality we've got in our squad, which we had full confidence in going into this game.”

The Blaze have lost three players since their victory on Monday to the Scotland ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad, but credits her teammates' drive and desire.

“In T20 cricket, anything can happen, we know that, but I know how planned and prepared we are as a team, and then it's just about executing it on the pitch,” she said.

“We’ve had a great season going into this. Players have played lots in the twos as well, so we know that players are hungry to play.

“So, everyone’s had some great game time, and the girls that have been wanting to get in, they're now in, they're excited to play and get the ball rolling.”

The Blaze overcame a tough first ten overs in the field, before an inspired over from Lucy Higham, combined with Grace Ballinger’s relentlessness, helped restrict Warwickshire to 158-8.

“We recognised pretty quickly that pace on suited the batters,” explained Kelly. “It was a great pitch, so we tried to just go with as much pace off as possible.

“[We wanted to] really pull it back, and actually bowl spinners a little bit later, which kind of goes against your gut as a captain to bowl spinners nearer the death, but that seemed to work.

“We’ve planned and prepared really well going into it, so we knew what the matchups were, and we were able to pull it back nicely.”

Despite winning three from three in the Vitality Blast, Kelly believes there is still even more to come from her side.

“We haven't really played our best cricket yet, so it's always quite enjoyable when there's still lots of things you can work on, but you find a way to win and get over the line,” she said.

“That’s always a great sign, and that's what you want as a squad.

“If we can put it all together at some point, that'd be fab, but it’s been great to see different people putting their hands up at different times. There's signs of a great team.”
