Tom Moores’ rapid fifty was not enough for Notts Outlaws to overcome Derbyshire Falcons as they were downed by 23 runs at the Central Co-Op County Ground.
Moores hammered an unbeaten 75 from 34 balls, with ten boundaries - seven of which were sixes - but his efforts could only propel the visitors to 211-6, short of the 235 they required for victory.
Jack Haynes also added 45 from 26 balls and George Linde collected two wickets, but home captain Aneurin Donald proved the matchwinner as he hit eight maximums in a 31-ball 84.
Donald and Martin Andersson, who also hit 69 not out from 43 balls, put on an opening stand of 112 to get the hosts off to a strong start after the former opted to bat first after winning the toss.
Linde was the man to remove him, caught by Haynes at deep midwicket, before Caleb Jewell fell to Benny Howell for four thanks to another Haynes catch in the same region.
Despite that, the Falcons were still moving swiftly, and Andersson completed his fifty from 35 balls before veteran Wayne Madsen was well caught by Mohammad Ali in a futile attempt to ramp Linde.
Ali then turned architect at the start of the penultimate over to see off Ross Whiteley for 33, caught athletically by Moores off a top-edge.
By then, however, the hosts were past 200, and two maximums in the final three balls saw them to their hefty total.
It was an uphill battle for the Outlaws when they found themselves 43-3 midway through the seventh over, though Haynes, unbeaten through that, was determined to kick on.
Alongside Moores, he orchestrated a total of 42 runs coming off a three-over period that included the halfway mark, to take the score to 91-3 after 11.
Haynes did fall to Andersson, caught at cover by Wayne Madsen, two balls later, but Moores and Linde aimed to pick up where he left off by adding 68 from 32 balls to push the score beyond 150.
However, with the rate climbing, Linde holed out for 29, before Moores, having hammered six to reach a 24-ball fifty, suffered a nasty-looking blow on the helmet from an Akif Javed bouncer.
He recovered very admirably to continue after a short delay, hammering two more maximums and guiding the total past 200, but the rate proved beyond the visitors.
Benny Howell fell for a swift 19 to become Ben Aitchison’s second wicket, and despite Joe Pocklington slamming the final ball for six, the Outlaws finished short of what was required.
