Lyndon James defied the rain as he struck a run-a-ball unbeaten century on a reduced opening day of Nottinghamshire 2nd XI’s friendly against Warwickshire at Lady Bay.

James amassed 109 not out, from exactly the same number of deliveries and including 14 fours and three sixes, as the hosts totalled 236-4 from the 50 overs that were possible on day one.

The start of play was delayed by half an hour due to overnight rain, and the opening exchanges only lasted 20 minutes before more precipitation enforced an early lunch.

Once play did resume shortly after 2:30pm, only seven minutes and nine balls were possible before the rain returned, though the afternoon did see an improvement to allow the day to be completed.

In what play was possible, captain Sam Seecharan also contributed 40, sharing in a swift partnership of 93 in 94 balls with James for the third wicket, while Henry Rogers added 31 not out.

Rogers and James’ fifth-wicket stand was also worth an unbroken 85 at stumps, with Jacob Garlick’s 3/48 marking him out as the pick of the Bears’ bowlers.
