Gordon Hayward made his sole Nottinghamshire First-Class appearance in May 1951 against Oxford University in The Parks. He opened the bowling and finished with figures of 2 for 78 but did not bat. He appeared the following season for Notts Seconds; he made eight times for the Seconds, primarily as a bowler with reasonable success, including a five-wicket haul against Leicestershire Seconds.

A left-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler, he was born in Speeton, Yorkshire on New Year’s Eve in 1926. His birth county might explain at least one of his given names - he was christened James Gordon Rotherham Hayward!

After residing in Worcestershire for many years he died on 29 September 2014, aged 87 years.
