Born in Wilford on 22 December 1867, Arthur Gervase Carter - who was known as Jarvis - was a right-arm medium pace bowler and a right-hand bat. He appeared for Notts Colts v Yorkshire Colts in 1893. He played in the same fixture in 1895, being described as “a thoroughly good cricketer” and made the highest score of 49. His First-Class debut came v Leicestershire at Trent Bridge in June 1895 when he scored 13; in his only other First-Class game, three weeks later v Derbyshire at Derby, he scored 3 and 0 not out. He bowled in neither match.

Jarvis Carter spent most of his adult life in Scotland, being a professional at Drumpellier CC from 1898 to 1901 and for the West of Scotland CC from 1902.

He died aged 65 at the General Hospital in Nottingham on 19 July 1933.
