At the end of the 2000 season, Mark Bowen decided to retire from first-class cricket in order to pursue his career in the nuclear industry – he has an honours degree in chemical engineering.

A keen, hard working cricketer, who spent four years on the Northamptonshire staff, he joined Notts in 1996.

His best performance was 7 for 73 v Somerset at Trent Bridge in 1998, but the previous season he returned 7 for 75 v Derbyshire, also at home.

His record in Sunday League cricket was 46 wickets at 30.58
