Matt Wood was quickly signed as Jason Gallian's replacement, following the departure of the former captain at the end of the 2007 season.
He signed a three-year deal looking to ignite his career after a year on the sidelines at Somerset. The return of Marcus Trescothick from England duty meant the talented right-hander only played two First-Class games all year, and he opted to move north in search of a fresh start.
Wood scored 4,375 First-Class runs from 76 games at Somerset at an average of 34.72 with nine hundreds, including an impressive 113 against Notts at Trent Bridge in 2004.
His career-best of 297 came in a marathon nine-hour innings against Yorkshire at Taunton and helped him to 1,000 runs in 2005, when he also helped the Cidermen lift the Twenty20 Cup.
Wood scored four fifties, including a 98, in his first season at Trent Bridge in 2008 but struggled to hold down a regular County Championship spot in 2009 when he excelled as a hard-hitting opener in limited overs cricket.
Matt played the last of his 25 First-Class matches for Notts in August 2010, and he is now the Club's Player Pathway Development Manager.
