A player that pre-dates the Nottinghamshire team, Robert Gibson, believed to have been born in Nottingham in 1801, has few recorded appearances. He played for Radford v Derby in July 1827; for Nottingham v Sheffield in 1828, when he scored 3 and 0no; and for County v Town in 1829. He had married in Radford in 1824.
He is perhaps the uncle of Robert and John Gibson who played in the 1850s; there is also a T Gibson listed as appearing for the Pelican Club of New Radford who may be this Gibson or another family member.
