Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell has been seconded to lead the England Under 19s tour of Bangladesh in October.

The 16-man squad will use the tour to finalise preparations for the Under 19s World Cup to be held in New Zealand in January and Newell is relishing the opportunity to head the party.

The move follows the recent appointment of Andy Pick as ICC Development Performance Manager for the Americas.

“I’ve never been involved with an international team or a representative side but it’s something that I’ve always aspired to and this tour is the ideal starting point for me,” said Newell.

“I have already seen some of the players in First Class cricket and am looking forward to doing more work ahead of the the tour with the full squad at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough.”

ECB Managing Director, England Cricket Hugh Morris said: “I would like to thank Andy Pick for the excellent contribution he has made to both the England U19s team and our Elite Player Development programme. We wish him well in his new post.

“Mick Newell is widely respected within the domestic game and his knowledge, skills and experience will be an invaluable asset to the England U19s team as they prepare for an important winter which will include a World Cup in New Zealand early in the New Year. It’s a great opportunity for Mick and we are very grateful to Nottinghamshire for their help and support in making this happen.”
