It’s certainly been an interesting start to my first Ashes tour.

After starting well in Perth, where I got 12 overs in and took 1-31 against a Western Australia XI, I managed to roll my ankle in Adelaide and damage ligaments.

It wasn’t the start that I’d dreamed about, that’s for sure, but it quickly became clear it wasn’t going to keep me out of the tour, so my focus since then has been trying to get fit so I could make myself available for selection for the first Test in Brisbane.

After eight to 10 days of intense physio – and a lot of icing – I managed to get in 17 overs of bowling in the nets and two sessions of fielding on the last day of the Townsville warm-up match.

Now the real stuff starts come tomorrow morning (Thursday) when 40,000 Aussies will turn up at the Gabba hoping to see Australia win.

But you can be assured that we will be going there hoping to spoil the party – and I for one can’t wait to get started, having been given the nod to play.

Let The Ashes begin!
