Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell was a guest at the annual gathering of the Cricket Writers’ Club (CWC), held at Trent Bridge this week.

Around 40 of the country’s leading writers and broadcasters, including The Nottingham Post’s Matt Davies and BBC Radio Nottingham’s Dave Bracegirdle, were in attendance.

They enjoyed lunch and a networking session before having the opportunity to ask Newell questions on, among other things, the three-conference system that is being mooted for the Specsavers County Championship and the proposed new 100-ball tournament.

The Club’s Annual General Meeting followed the get-together in the ground’s Boundary’s Edge function room.

CWC Chairman Mark Baldwin said: “Historically we’ve always met at Lord’s, but we are now trying to move things around to give more of our members the chance to attend in their locality.

“It was a very good day and I’d like to thank the staff for looking after us very well and Mick Newell for giving up his time to come and chat to us.”
