Steady drizzle, a soaked outfield and poor light prevented any play on the scheduled second day of Nottinghamshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Worcestershire at Blackfinch New Road.

Umpires Richard Illingworth and David Millns finally called play off for the day at around 3.10pm.

Following the loss of the first day, the complete abandonment of the match against Cambridge MCCU at Fenner’s and the opening day at Old Trafford, Notts have now lost six of their opening 13 days of cricket to inclement conditions.

The New Road ground, under flood water until the last couple of weeks, had been readied for this fixture but constant rain over the last 48 hours has taken its toll.

There has never been a complete abandonment of a first class fixture between the two counties and the brighter forecast for Sunday will hopefully ensure that statistic remains.

Neither county has confirmed their starting elevens but Stuart Broad is set to play for Notts, after being rested for the first two matches after international duty.
