Nottinghamshire are about to embark on the new 2018 season, where they are back in Specsavers County Championship Division One after a one-year hiatus. In the lead-up to it, trentbridge.co.uk is running the rule over their seven opponents, one each day – with a little bit of help from left-arm seamer Harry Gurney. Today we focus on Somerset.

Captain: Tom Abell (pictured).

Head Coach: Jason Kerr.

Championship overseas player: None as yet, after pulling out of the signing of Cameron Bancroft (Australia).

Championship signings: None.

Ground: The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton.

Betting odds: 8-1.

Harry says: “They have a new coach for this season and there’s been a few other tweaks behind the scenes, but it will still be just as difficult to go and win at Taunton with the evergreen Marcus Trescothick always guaranteeing runs and two quality spinners in Jack Leach and Dom Bess, who will look to take advantage of turning pitches that will be the most alien to what we see at Trent Bridge.
