Nottinghamshire's Second XI struggled to cope with a strong Lancashire bowling line-up on the opening day of their friendly match at Emirates Old Trafford.

Notts were bowled out for 126 in their first innings in a game designed to facilitate James Anderson’s return from injury ahead of England’s forthcoming test series with India.

Liam Patterson-White top scored with 27 whilst Connor Marshall finished unbeaten on 25 but no other Notts batsman made over 20, with Jake Libby and Lyndon James both scoring 15.

Tom Bailey took three wickets and Anderson picked up two on his return.

In reply, Lancashire were restricted to 163-6 at the close of play with Haseeb Hameed making 96.

The rest of Lancashire’s batting order struggled with Matt Milnes dismissing Brook Guest and Steven Croft, both for one, whilst Lyndon James took the wickets of Rob Jones (2) and Josh Bohannan (3).

Hameed and Jamie Crawley put on 57 before Matt Carter removed Crawley for 16 with Jake Libby taking the catch.

Jordan Cook then bowled Hameed just short of his century to bring an end to the day's play.
