Fifties from Lyndon James and Savin Perera could not prevent Nottinghamshire Academy going down to a four-wicket defeat against Lancashire Academy at Lady Bay.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, but soon lost Solomon Budinger (8), who was bowled by Ben Gibbon.

James (57) hit 10 fours and made his runs from 52 balls before he was bowled by Mo Ahmad to make it 91-2.

The hundred came up off 103 balls, but soon after Chris Gibson (10) went forward to Ahmad and was bowled and his replacement at the crease, Joey Evison (9), was caught at mid-wicket by Sam Perry from Louis Botes’ bowling.

When Callum Metcalf (25) was caught at cow corner by Ed Fluck off the bowling of Jack Morley, Notts were 171-5.

Perera (65) was next out as he bowled around his legs by George Balderson, who also accounted for Tom Keast, caught in the deep by Fluck.

Jordan Cook was caught and bowled by Gibbon, Liam Patterson-White (5) was trapped lbw by Balderson and Tim Wyatt (4) was bowled by Gibbon, meaning Nottinghamshire were 206 all out in the 45th over.

Lancashire replied with openers Jamie Crawley and Sam Oldham and got away to a solid start, putting on 55 before the latter was bowled for 41 by spinner Jordan Cook, who repeated the trick to remove Fluck from the next ball.

George Lavelle (27) helped move the score on to 98 before he was lbw to Gibson, while Joey Evison trapped Jamie Crawley (19) leg before.

When Evison bowled Dorsey for 4 to make it 107-5, Notts were sniffing victory, but Lancashire recovered well before Balderson (23) was caught by keeper Keast off Gibson.

But Sam Perry had by now got his eye in and clinched victory for the Red Rose with a six to end on 65 not out, with Gibbon on 9 not out.
