Notts Outlaws will be on the brink of qualifying for the knock-out phase of the Royal London One-Day Cup if they can defeat Yorkshire Vikings in their North Group match at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

The Outlaws have won all four of their opening matches and top the group.

Yorkshire have been involved in some thrilling close finishes, with two of their four matches finishing as ties.

A win and a narrow defeat leave them with four points at the halfway stage of qualifying.

Sunday has been designated as the club’s Family Fun Day, with all tickets sold in advance and none available on the day of the game.

Head-To-Head

This will be the 63rd meeting across on all forms of one-day cricket. The sides first met in 1963 for a Gillette Cup fixture which was played at Middlesbrough.

Matches followed at Scarborough, Bradford and Sheffield before the teams first met at Trent Bridge for a John Player League clash in 1971.

Yorkshire have the overall advantage, winning 29 matches to Notts’ 24. Rain prevented positive results on eight occasions and the 1982 match at The Circle ground in Hull ended in a tie.

Notts have hosted the White Rose on 29 occasions, winning 15 of the matches. Yorkshire have won 10 times and four other matches have been lost to the weather.

Last Time

Last year’s scheduled match at Headingley was abandoned without a ball bowled, so the most recent meeting was two seasons ago in Nottingham.

The home side were outplayed, losing by seven wickets after being bowled out for 185. Brendan Taylor top-scored with 60 for the Outlaws.

Joe Root was able to claim family bragging rights, with the England captain making an undefeated 75, which included the winning runs from brother Billy’s bowling.

History

WEDNESDAY 22nd MAY 1963:

One-day knock-out cricket was introduced in 1963 with the advent of the Gillette Cup, originally played at 65 overs per side. Nottinghamshire’s first match ended in a four-wicket defeat against Yorkshire at Acklam Park, Middlesbrough.

Brian Bolus, playing against the county he left a few months earlier, opened the batting and scored an undefeated 100 in Notts’ disappointing 159 all out, with Fred Trueman collecting four cheap wickets for the home side.
