Luke Fletcher, the Nottinghamshire fast bowler, has been the fifth most valuable player in county cricket so far in 2019 according to the Professional Cricketers’ Association rankings.

The 30-year-old paceman has begun his 12th season as a professional with the Green & Golds with 11 First-Class wickets at an average of 19.18.

His 5-50 in his side’s most recent outing against Essex couldn’t, however, prevent him from finishing the fixture on the losing side.

In the Royal London One-Day Cup, meanwhile, Fletcher starred with bat and ball.

The burly fast bowler’s 17 wickets came at an average of just 21.64, whilst also sustaining a miserly economy rate of 5.82 – a remarkable achievement in the current bat-dominated climate.

Lusty hitting in the lower-middle order also saw Fletcher contribute 138 runs at a remarkable strike-rate of 164.28, the highest for Notts, as the Outlaws finished top of the North Group.

Nicknamed the Bulwell Bomber, Fletcher has become a stalwart of the Nottinghamshire bowling line-up having been a consistent performer since making his professional debut in 2008.

Overall in his career, Fletcher has taken in excess of 450 wickets across all three formats and should he continue to perform at the current level this summer, 2019 could yet be Fletcher’s finest as an Outlaw.
