A devastating spell from Sonia Odedra proved to be the difference as Nottinghamshire secured a 23-run victory against Sussex in the second half of their season-opening double-header.

Odedra was unplayable as Notts successfully defended 150, taking the first four wickets of the Sussex innings to leave them on 20-4 after 12 overs.

Jenny Gunn, Rebecca Widdowson, Jodie Cook and Sophie Munro also took crucial scalps to reduce Sussex to 71-8, before a late burst from Lucy Higham saw off the stout resistance of Tara Norris and Carla Rudd.

Earlier, Jenny Gunn top-scored with a gritty 30 on her second appearance since returning to Notts as the visitors were bowled out for 150 after 48.1 overs.

The victory ensured that Notts finished their weekend of Royal London Women's One Day Cup fixtures on a high, after falling to defeat against Kent on Sunday.

Two wickets for Gunn and Widdowson, along with a trio of run-outs, restricted the hosts to a total of 192-9 at Canterbury, but Polly Inglis’ unbeaten 49 on debut was not enough as Notts were bowled out for 143, 49 runs short of their target.
