The concluding clash of a Bank Holiday Sunday double-header proved to be a thriller at Trent Bridge last year, as nerveless death bowling saw Notts over the line.

Joe Clarke (50) had helped to lay a solid platform for the Outlaws, with big-hitting from Dan Christian (31* off 16 balls) helping the hosts weather a difficult passage of play to post 148/7.

It was a total that Yorkshire looked in serious danger of overcoming, with Adam Lyth (48) following up his five-wicket haul with a crucial contribution.

But, with 18 required from the final two overs, Luke Fletcher found his length to devastating effect.

A pair of perfect yorkers removed Jack Leaning and Tim Bresnan, leaving the visitors needing 12 from Harry Gurney’s final over.

That Will Fraine hit a maximum from the first ball only served to ratchet the tension further.

Fom the very next ball, however, Matt Carter would use every inch of his towering frame to remove the former Notts man.

And new man Jordan Thompson was comprehensively outfoxed by the Notts left-armer, allowing a 14,000-strong crowd to celebrate a nailbiting three-run win.
