Samit Patel has been added to the Melbourne Renegades squad ahead of their BBL clash against Perth Scorchers on Tuesday 7 January.

The all-rounder takes the place of the injured Harry Gurney in the party, after Patel’s fellow Outlaw was part of the XI in the Renegades’ opening four games of the season.

The stint down under is set to be Patel’s first spell in the Australian T20 competition, with the spinner having also turned out for Qalandars in the Abu Dhabi T10 League earlier this winter.

Patel made 12 appearances for the Outlaws in the 2019 Vitality Blast as the Green and Golds reached their third Finals Day in the past four years.

The right-hander was also a key member of the Notts squad which reached the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final, hitting an unbeaten 136 at Northamptonshire to secure his side’s progress to the knockout stages.

He joins Outlaws T20 skipper Dan Christian at Renegades, whilst Alex Hales continues to ply his trade for Sydney Thunder.
