Sir Richard Hadlee has been voted Nottinghamshire’s greatest player of all time in a poll organised by the County Championship.

The all-rounder received 39% of the final vote, narrowly beating Chris Read to the accolade.

Harold Larwood and Clive Rice were also in the running after nominations were sought from Notts supporters.

Hadlee’s spell at Trent Bridge encompassed two County Championship titles and victory at Lord’s in the NatWest Trophy.

The New Zealand international was also crowned the PCA’s Player of the Year in 1981, 1984 and 1987 – with no Nottinghamshire player repeating this feat until Samit Patel in 2017.

Hadlee joins the likes of Malcolm Marshall (Hampshire), Colin Cowdrey (Kent), James Anderson (Lancashire) and Denis Compton (Middlesex) as being voted his county’s best in polls organised by England’s premier red-ball competition.
