Sam King has been named Nottinghamshire’s Academy Player of the Season.

The 17-year-old made 12 appearances for Notts’ under 18s across a truncated age-group campaign, scoring 348 runs at 49.71.

All-rounder King hit two half-centuries, with a high score of 79* from 73 deliveries coming in a one-wicket victory over Worcestershire.

His 15 wickets, meanwhile, included best bowling figures of 3-34 in a six-wicket win over Leicestershire and Rutland’s under 18s.

“Sam’s had an excellent summer; he won us a number of games, both with the bat and with the ball, and he’s acted as a leader in the group,” said Matt Wood, Nottinghamshire’s Elite Pathway Manager.

“He’s been impressive in the way he’s taken on the responsibility of leadership, managed the team, and maintained his own performances.

“In the last year or two his cricket has really taken off – he’s got a lot taller and stronger, and is a real athlete now, which is what you need to be in the modern game.”
