The second eleven fell to an innings and 33 runs defeat at the hands of Lancashire in the Second XI Championship season opener at Lady Bay, despite some second innings resistance.

Ben Compton and Joey Evison put on 196 for the second wicket on the third day to frustrate the visitors after following on, but were only able to add one more on day four before Evison (77) was caught and bowled by Xander Selby in the second over.

It sparked a steady flow of wickets for the hosts, Sol Budinger the next to depart at the hands of Selby, before centurion Compton was trapped LBW by Jack Blatherwick on the seamer’s return to Nottingham.

Of the remaining batsmen, Only Dane Schadendorf was able to compile a score of note, but was helpless as he watched his partners fall at the other end. When the wicketkeeper was eventually caught for 23 for Lancs’ final wicket, Notts has 298 runs on the board.

Notts host Leicestershire in their next fixture behind closed doors at Lady Bay on Monday.
