Four wickets from Rebecca Widdowson and a half-century from Teresa Graves carried Nottinghamshire to two wins from two in their season-opening double-header against Yorkshire.

The hosts emerged victorious in the opening encounter of the day at Welbeck CC courtesy of a strong batting performance, with Notts setting a pace their opponents were unable to match.

Yvonne Graves (8) and Ella Porter (11) departed inside the opening five overs, but that merely cleared the stage for a brisk half-century partnership between Teresa Graves and Michaela Kirk.

Graves was the aggressor in the pair’s stand, hitting 33 of the 50 runs the pair compiled before Kirk (14) was bowled by Emma Marlow.

And the right-hander continued in much the same vein when joined by Jodie Cook, ultimately compiling 67 from 50 deliveries before being bowled by Jessica Woolston.

Jodie Cook (24 from 25 deliveries) added further sheen to the scorecard, before being dismissed in the final over as Notts racked up 135-5.

While Yorkshire progressed to 15/0 from their opening three overs, they never seriously endangered the target they were set, with two wickets in the space of three deliveries from Sophie Munro severely checking their momentum.

With openers Charlotte North (3) and Elise Good (11) both removed, Yorkshire found the going tough, with Widdowson and Cook keeping a tight hold on the scoring rate.

Widdowson was next to strike, uprooting the stumps of Adrianna Darlow for 1, before Teresa Graves removed top-scorer Buck – Maddie Ward completing the stumping.

Daisy Stokoe (6), Katie Thompson (5) and Jessica Woolston (10) found scoring opportunities equally hard to come by, with Teresa Graves, Kite and Munro doing the damage respectively.

The visitors ultimately limped to 58/7, some 77 runs short of Nottinghamshire’s total.

The second fixture of the day saw Notts produce a devastating bowling performance, with Yorkshire dismissed for 73 with more than an over to spare.

Graves was first to strike, luring Good out of her crease and allowing Maddie Ward to complete her second stumping of the day.

After the departure of her opening partner for a duck, North briskly made her way to 10 from her opening three deliveries before hitting Amelia Kite into the hands of Widdowson.

Hannah Buck and Darlow then threatened to rebuild, taking Yorkshire past 50 before Buck was bowled by Jodie Cook; her replacement, Lucy Lindley, would depart to the very next delivery.

Darlow made 12 before being castled by Sophie Munro, before Marlow was pinned lbw to become Cook’s third victim of the morning.

It was then left to Widdowson to mop up the tail, which she did with aplomb.

First E. Rossi edged the medium-pacer into the hands of Ward, before Widdowson struck twice in her next over to account for Bethany Slater and Woolston.

Yorkshire’s innings met its premature end when Widdowson removed Thompson for a single-figure score.

In reply, Notts were largely untroubled, progressing to 38 before losing Porter (13) lbw to Slater.

Yvonne Graves and Kirk kept the scoreboard ticking over before Lindley bowled the former for 23.

But by now the finishing line was well in sight, and Kirk (15*) and Hannah Hughes (9*) completed the job with more than five overs remaining.
