Fresh off the back of his second five-wicket haul in the space of three games, spinner Liam Patterson-White has spoken of the confidence boost given to the Nottinghamshire squad by their dominant first day in Durham.

“We’ve had a really good day with our bowling attack,” reflected the spinner, who finished with innings figures of 5/54. “To perform like that on any day is really nice.”

Patterson-White’s return came in one continuous spell from the Riverside’s Finchale End, as he bowled 26.4 overs without interruption.

Such endurance is nothing new for the Academy graduate, as he also racked up a total of 76.1 overs in the season-opening success at Sussex, but it is a feature of his game he is proud of.

“It’s really pleasing to be able to bowl so many overs in a row,” he reflected. “My role was to hold an end up, and I’m satisfied I’ve done my job well today.”

Despite the individual accolades secured by the 23-year-old during this game and the season so far, the magnanimous all-rounder insisted that the team always comes first.

Patterson-White reserved his heartiest praise for teammate Luke Fletcher, who picked up his 600th career wicket in all formats.

“Fletch is a massive influence on everyone in that dressing room, so to be there when he took that 600th wicket was a really special moment,” he smiled.

“It’s also really pleasing for Dane (Paterson, who picked up three wickets), too. The way he works and puts performances in is really nice.”

The showings of the bowling attack as a whole resulted in a day in which Nottinghamshire thrust themselves into the driving seat, and Patterson-White views the immediate future of this contest positively.

“Doing well today is a really big morale boost. Everyone’s really proud of our achievements, and it is an achievement to be able to bowl them out in a day," he said.

“We’ll take the confidence generated into tomorrow, and go from there.

"Tomorrow can bring anything, but we know we’re right on top at this moment, and we’ve got to really push on and make sure we cash in.”
