Nottinghamshire showed persistence with the ball to beat Leicestershire by 72 runs at Loughborough Town Cricket Club after the top order of Ella Porter, Maddie Ward and Sadie Hodgson posted valuable contributions in the Royal London U18 County Cup.

Having elected to bat, Ward and Porter shared a 83-run stand for the first wicket before the former was bowled for 38 in the 19th over.

The hosts proved plucky with regular dismissals throughout the remainder of Notts’ 40 overs, though, Charley Dickerson claiming figures of 4-36 in her seven overs.

But an Eventual 43 from Porter, and 35 from Sadie Hodgson saw the visitors to a competitive total of 193/7.

In reply, Notts took two early wickets to reduce Leicestershire to 27-2, one each for Rhiannon Knowling-Davies and Olivia Baker.

A steady rebuild saw them to 89-4 at the halfway stage with the match in the balance.

But, after drinks, the Green and Golds rallied. Sophie Bennett was run out by Porter for 57 cueing the remaining five wickets to fall within seven overs.

Molly Greasby, Libby Armitage and Porter all finished with two wickets apiece as Notts made it two from two in the competition.
