Notts lost the first but emerged victorious in the second of two curtain-raising U18 County T20 games against Leicestershire and Yorkshire at Lady Bay.

Their opening-match defeat by five wickets against their East Midlands neighbours came despite 68 from Ben Willcox and combined figures of 4-52 from eight spin overs of captain Freddie McCann and Farhan Ahmed.

Their response was emphatic, though: a 36-run thumping of the White Rose the product of a 52-ball 92 from Travis Holland, a second fifty of the day for Wilcox and 2-23 off four overs from Ahmed.

Having lost the toss in the first game, the Outlaws top order reached 63 for the loss of three wickets from their opening 10 overs.

Wilcox shepherded Fateh Singh through the next phase of the innings. The pair added 66 for the fourth wicket, including 19 runs off the 16th over, to finish on 146.

Abneer Irfan was unable to stem the flow of runs in the response, as the visitors raced to 57/1 from the powerplay.

McCann and Ahmed took three wickets in 15 balls to halt the momentum, including that of Fred Fallows who made 46 off 26 balls, but Vikai Kelly, Joe Johnson and Rishi Herath ushered the Foxes over the line with two overs to spare.

Yorkshire, too, chose to field having won the toss, but the outcome in the opening stages proved somewhat different.

The loss of Lucas Stentiford in the third over appeared not to phase Holland and Wilcox, who bludgeoned 20 off the fifth over and 17 off the sixth to finish the powerplay on 58/1.

And they would add another 95 over nine overs before Wilcox was dismissed for a 36-ball 53, and Holland departed with three overs left.

Notts’ eventual 189 proved to be too many despite Yorkshire’s positive start.

From 47/1 after five overs, they added a further 31 by the halfway stage with McCann and Singh claiming the opening three wickets.

And a dearth of momentum from the batting side saw the Outlaws to victory, Ahmed claiming two wickets, Thomas Giles one and Faizan Minhas another as Yorkshire faltered to 153/7 at the end of their allotted overs.
