Ben Martindale hit his maiden Second XI century as Nottinghamshire passed 350 on the first day of their Championship clash with Kent at Beckenham.

Academy graduate Martindale, who had previously made five fifties in the format, hit 23 fours during a 176-ball stay at the crease.

He shared in a century stand for the first wicket with Freddie McCann before the latter was dismissed by Hamidullah Qadri having made 55.

There were cameos from Tom Loten (23), Dane Schadendorf (21) and Fateh Singh (14), while Tom Moores reached stumps undefeated on 87 from 93 deliveries.

The hosts’ fightback with the ball saw them take 4 wickets in the final 20 overs of play, but Moores and Olly Stone guided the Green and Golds to 377/6 at close of play.
