Bethan Gammon is a wicketkeeper-batter by trade, but a true cricketing all-rounder.

The 23-year-old Wales international is also The Blaze’s Talent Manager, using her expertise to assist the next generation of aspiring cricketers in the Emerging Player Programme and County Age Group setups.

Those personal competitive fires still burn brightly – and after spearheading two victories for The Blaze’s Second XI, with unbeaten half-centuries in each, she now takes her place in the starting XI against Sunrisers.

But her selection for The Blaze’s Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy fixture at Chelmsford will not compromise her commitment to the player pathway, with Gammon set to resume her duties in charge of the EPP side just 24 hours later.

“That Bethan is in contention to play for our first team is testament to her commitment to the game – even with her duties with the EPP and County Age Group sides taking up so much of her time,” said Head Coach Chris Guest.

“While injuries and international commitments have helped to provide this opportunity, there can be no doubt that Beth has earned her chance on merit, and she’s showcased her ability in those games for the Second XI.

“She’s kept up her experience of competitive cricket with those games for Wales Women, and has maintained her training regime to be ready to contribute if called upon.”

Gammon has made 23 white-ball appearances for Wales Women in county competitions, having also been part of the National Cricket Counties Association side which triumphed in the first-ever Women’s European Cricket Championship last December.

Having progressed through the Western Storm pathway, she made three appearances for the South West-based regional side in 2021.

An unbeaten 71 from 90 deliveries saw The Blaze’s Second XI to a six-wicket victory over Thunder last weekend, with 50* from 64 balls securing a win over Central Sparks in a friendly fixture at Kibworth.
