Sarah Glenn is raring to go ahead of the culmination of The Blaze’s Vitality Blast campaign on Finals Day at the Kia Oval.
The Blaze face Bears in the Eliminator match at 12:30pm tomorrow (Sunday 27 July), with the winner progressing to the Final to take on Surrey from 4:30pm.
“We’re really excited!” beamed Glenn. “We got the win the other day [against Bears in the One Day Cup] so we’ve got that momentum going into this game.
“Obviously being at the Oval, it’s a very nice ground as well! No matter how strong you’ve been throughout the tournament, it’s how you cope with those pressure moments.
“I think, for us, it’s just about holding our nerve, being resilient, and hopefully getting over the line!”
Glenn is part of a 15-strong squad travelling to London for the showpiece, with Tammy Beaumont returning to bolster The Blaze’s ranks.
“Her experience adds so much to the team, and she brings such a positive energy to the group,” said Glenn, of Beaumont.
“It’s always nice to have familiar faces, and obviously she’s a class player as well. It will be really nice to have her back!”
Off-spinner Glenn is, though, only too aware of the notion that T20 cricket is won and lost in the moment, regardless of the strength of each squad on paper or any sort of winning run.
However, that is a fact she is taking in her stride, and one that she believes The Blaze are prepared to face down.
“Yeah, obviously it’s nice to have that momentum, but I feel like Finals Day is for anyone,” she said. “It’s all about who turns up on the day.
“So, as much as we’re taking that momentum, we know we need to reset, come together as a team, and be ready.”
Preparations, according to Glenn, have also been strong, and talking in the midst of training less than 24 hours out, she believes The Blaze have put themselves in a strong position.
“Obviously training at the Oval is very nice, and we’ve got a glorious day for it as well,” she smiled. “The girls have trained really hard, and they’re prepping really well now.
“I feel like we’ve been really brave in our Blast campaign so far. We’ve tried different things as well to be prepared for Finals Day.
“But, we also know how to stick to our strengths as well, so hopefully, we can piece it all together.”
Glenn is also naturally thrilled to be playing in the occasion for The Blaze, which will be her first following a bad run of luck with injuries, and can think of few finer venues to do so.
“I missed out last year with a bit of an injury, so I’m excited to be fully fit back on the park, and be with the girls,” she said.
“We want to have that pressure from the crowd as well - hopefully we’ll get a good crowd in. I think to play at this ground is really special.
“We always get a good atmosphere here, and it just makes it feel a bit more special to have that pressure!”
