Sammy King struck a mature half-century as Nottinghamshire Second XI set up a final-day victory push against Durham in Gosforth.
King made 54 from 128 deliveries, including seven fours, to underpin a Notts second-innings total of 230-9 declared, as Joe Pocklington’s unbeaten 26 provided support.
Pocklington and last man Francis Moore, who made 17 not out, also eked out a further 33 valuable runs in an unbroken last-wicket stand.
That set the hosts 322 to win, but their hopes of starting such a chase strongly were dashed as Matt Montgomery and Olly Stone picked up two wickets late on.
With Notts’ declaration having tactically allowed them to bowl a challenging three overs at Durham at the extreme back end of the third day, the hosts were reduced to 7-2 at stumps.
Montgomery bowled Jim Twiddy for nought after just nine balls, before Olly Stone removed Daniel Hogg for one with the final delivery of the day.
