On a much-punctuated day owing to poor weather and bad light, Nottinghamshire showed great resolve to battle through the tricky times and come out with a score of 241-5 at stumps on Day One against Hampshire.

McCann top-scored with 79, while Haynes made 70, and there were also contributions from Kyle Verreynne, who made 42, and Joe Clarke, who added 32.

Eddie Jack and Kyle Abbott both claimed a brace apiece for the hosts, but honours were felt to be largely even after an intriguing first day at Utilita Bowl.
