Former Notts Outlaws opener Michael Lumb made a welcome return to Trent Bridge for the Vitality Blast opener against Birmingham Bears to present debutant Moises Henriques with his county cap.

And Lumb, who joined Notts from Hampshire ahead of the 2012 campaign, was in good spirits to be returning to the ground he made his home for six seasons.

“It’s always very special to be back here. I made lots of good memories here, so it’s always great to be back and watch the boys take it on.” he said.

“It was a good team to be part of, and it’s where I finished my career. I had some of the best memories of my career, and it’s definitely where I had the most fun!

“It feels like a family here, and it’s very special to come back.”

Lumb scored over 1,100 T20 runs for the Outlaws, including five half-centuries, but in the six English winters concurrent with his time at Trent Bridge, he appeared for Sydney Sixers in Australia’s Big Bash League.

There, he joined forces with Henriques, winning the competition in its first iteration, and he spoke with great pride at being invited back for the honour of a cap presentation.

“It’s great to be presenting a cap, but to one of my best mates, it’s very special. To finally get him to Trent Bridge, it’s brilliant,” said Lumb.

In soaking up the Trent Bridge atmosphere again, Lumb also positively recognised the newly-developing core of the Outlaws’ shortest-format squad.

“It’s definitely very exciting.” he said. “There are a lot of new faces, but I think the future is bright here. There are some very good young players, and things are looking good for Notts.

“[They should] just go and have fun - and enjoy the T20 nights. It’s always a great crowd here at Trent Bridge, so just back yourself and enjoy it.”
