Ben Slater’s second half-century of the match saw Nottinghamshire remain top of Division One of the Rothesay County Championship after taking 12 points from a placid draw with Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

Slater struck a sixth consecutive First-Class fifty to finish unbeaten on 74 in the hosts’ second innings that totalled 148-1.

However, that was as far as the game progressed as, having bowled the White Rose out for 510 earlier on the final day, handshakes took place shortly before 5pm.

Liam Patterson-White, who took three wickets from 62 overs, did write himself into the history books as he bowled the tenth-most deliveries for Nottinghamshire in a single game.

Not since 1929, when off-spinner Sam Staples sent down 408 balls, also against Yorkshire, has anyone exceeded Patterson-White’s 372 in a single first-class innings for the Green and Golds.

It was another spinner, though, who stood out in Yorkshire’s first and ultimately only innings, as Freddie McCann claimed career-best bowling figures of 3/53.

After the visitors had resumed on 414-6, the hosts chipped away to eventually end the innings after 185.4 overs, of which all but 55 were bowled by spin - including three for Haseeb Hameed.

McCann’s three were all claimed after the final day’s resumption, as he saw Dom Bess stumped by debutant Ishan Kishan in between bowling George Hill and Jack White.

Will O’Rourke was curiously run out for nought by a Lyndon James throw to captain Hameed at the bowler’s end after a mix-up with Matthew Revis, who ended unbeaten on 93.

As Notts resumed with a nominal deficit of 23, Dan Moriarty bowled Hameed for 38, but the Green and Golds were otherwise untroubled through the 48 overs that remained in the match.

The highlight was Jonny Bairstow, having handed the wicketkeeping gloves to Finlay Bean for the final session, entertainingly bringing himself on to bowl at the very end.

He conceded six runs from what turned out to be the last over of the match, as the draw was agreed to keep Nottinghamshire two points clear of Surrey at the Division One summit.
