Josie Groves is hoping to take confidence from her five-wicket showing in the County Cup into her return to the 50-over format, as The Blaze face Somerset at Loughborough (Tuesday 20 May, 10.30am start).
Groves is part of a 13-strong squad for the encounter at the Haslegrave Ground.
The spinner secured figures of 5/19 as The Blaze dismissed Oxfordshire for 97 at Lady Bay, before cantering to a ten-wicket win to seal a quarter-final spot.
And she feels the match could have a positive effect on her efforts this week.
“I was happy with the way I went about things on Saturday,” she said.
“I feel like I’m in really good rhythm at the moment; I’m trying to keep everything simple and focus on my processes, because that seems to have got me into a good place.
“I think that’s something I can translate into games against tier one opposition. If I can take the confidence from Saturday's game, the results will still come.”
Groves’ wicket-taking exploits were supported by Grace Ballinger, Charley Phillips and Georgia Elwiss on Saturday – all of whom are in the squad for this week’s Metro Bank One Day Cup clash.
They are joined in the 13 by the likes of Kirstie Gordon and Kathryn Bryce, making for a formidable bowling arsenal.
“We’ve always been a pretty good bowling side – we’ve got all bases covered and everyone knows their plans really well,” said Groves.
“It’s always a good place to be, going into games knowing that whatever happens you’ve got someone that’s got an answer somewhere.”
The Blaze will be striding onto familiar territory at Loughborough, with the venue having been the team’s home in their previous incarnation as Lightning.
“You can just trust everything you do a bit more when you know the ground,” said Groves.
“You know the areas to hit with bat or ball, and how to get success.
“We know this ground really well, and quite a lot of the girls have played a lot of games here.
“It can be high-scoring, and the straight boundary is quite short, so I’d expect runs!
“It’s just about being adaptable – being prepared to change your plans if needed, but not to panic and to back your skills.”
