Captain Farhan Ahmed claimed two wickets as England U19 kept their seven-match Youth ODI series against West Indies alive with a tense victory in Grenada.

Chasing the hosts’ 276-9, set after Ahmed returned 2/51, the Young Lions sneaked over the line to secure a two-wicket win with an over to spare.

The England captain removed Brendan Boodoo caught and bowled for 16 before seeing Kunal Tilokani held by Manny Lumsden for one.

Zachary Carter had underpinned the Windies total, made after they had opted to bat first, with 87 from just 59 balls, while there were also two scalps apiece for Lumsden and Luke Hands.

In response, Ben Dawkins fell just short of a century for England in making 97, while he shared in a 158-run opening stand with Isaac Mohammed, who hit 74.

The latter’s dismissal precipitated the Young Lions falling from 158-1 to 210-5, before an important 16 off 23 balls from Ahmed steered them to within 45 of the target.

Lumsden and Hands then saw the tourists over the line with an unbroken partnership of 30 from 21 deliveries, leaving the series delicately poised at 3-2 with two games to play.
