Sri Lankan international seamer Binura Fernando has agreed a deal to join Notts Outlaws for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast.

Fernando, 30, will replace fellow seamer Mohammad Ali, who has been called up for international duty with Pakistan.

He will be eligible for selection for both remaining group-stage games, at home to Leicestershire Foxes and away to Yorkshire, as well as any possible knockout matches, including Finals Day.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Nottinghamshire for the Vitality Blast. It’s a fantastic opportunity to represent such a prestigious club,” said Fernando.

“I can’t wait to get out at Trent Bridge, meet the players, supporters, and contribute to the team’s success. I’m looking forward to getting started!”

Standing at a height of almost two metres (6ft 6in), left-armer Fernando, who is capable of speeds up to 87mph, has 29 white-ball caps for his country, taking 26 wickets.

Across his entire T20 career, which has seen him appear at two World Cups and multiple franchise leagues in Asia, Colombo-born Fernando has claimed 163 wickets at an average of just 19.79.

He previously played in England when he toured for three ODIs and two IT20s in 2021, during which he twice claimed the wicket of Jonny Bairstow.

“It’s exciting to be able to have Binura joining the squad at the business end of the competition,” added Nottinghamshire Head Coach, Peter Moores.

“He has a proven record in white-ball cricket and real international pedigree, his skillset adds genuine variety to the team, and he will complement the rest of our bowling attack.

"Of course we'll miss Mohammad Ali, who has been great man to have in the team and has been a key performer on and off the field, but we wish him all the best with Pakistan and we're excited to have Binura join in his place.”
