James Hayes was one of three young players to make their Notts List-A debut in the 2022 Royal London Cup (50-over) competition.

He played in both games staged at Gorse Lane, Grantham, doing particularly well in the first, a loss to Middlesex, when he bowled his full allocation of 10 overs and took 2-58. His economy rate of 5.80 was the lowest of any of the six bowlers used by The Outlaws in that game.

Hayes, born in Haywards Heath, Sussex on 27 June 2001, was educated at King’s College, Taunton, Somerset, and played a few games for Bridgewater CC before joining Notts. He developed his bowling in the West Country under the guidance of former Notts seamer Ben Phillips.

That development was furthered by some time at the Darren Lehmann Academy in Adelaide, South Australia and playing for local side Port Adelaide.

A right-arm seamer, Hayes played consistently and regularly for the Notts Second Xi in 2021 and 2022, with best bowling figures of 5-20 against Warwickshire seconds in April 2021.
