It was a disappointing day for both Notts Outlaws in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz as the teams of both Riki Wessels and Samit Patel lost in contrasting circumstances.

At the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, a high-scoring match saw a Kumar Sangakkara-inspired Galaxy Gladiators Lantau beat the Hung Hom Jaguars by six runs in a tight finish.

The Sri Lankan helped his side to 228-7 batting first as he powered 92 from 42 balls with 11 boundaries and four sixes.

In reply, the Jaguars chased well, aided by Wessels’ 37 from 27 balls that contained one four and four sixes, but Arshad Mohammad, who claimed 4-48, took wickets at vital stages as the Gladiators did just enough.

The second match featured Patel’s Kowloon Cantons, who struggled throughout their innings and managed just 127-7 against City Kaitak.

The Notts all-rounder fell for 5 as Canton’s captain Babar Hayat topped scored with 48 and Sohail Tavir took 2-17.

City’s response did not begin well as they were 46-4, with Patel taking 1-17 in his 2.1 over spell.

But Ravi Bopara (33 not out) and Tanvir (46 not out) then came together in an unbeaten stand of 84 to secure victory by six wickets with 3.5 overs to spare.

Both Wessels and Patel are in action again over the weekend with the final for the top two teams scheduled for Sunday, starting at 6am UK time.
