New Zealand could only add 54 runs on the second day of the first Test against England as rain ensured there was hardly any play in Auckland.

However, there was time for Black Caps captain Kane Williamson to reach his 18th Test century, before falling to James Anderson for 102.

That was the only wicket England managed in the small amount of play, as Henry Nicholls (49 not out) and BJ Watling (17 not out) took the score to 229-4 when rain put an end to the day.

The hosts will go into the third day of the first Test with a lead of 171, leaving England a mountain to climb after being bowled out for 58 on the first day.
