Nottinghamshire captain Steven Mullaney knows his side did not do enough to win the game as they slipped to an eight wicket defeat to Essex at Trent Bridge.
The visitors reached their target of 282 in just under two hours of play on the final day of the four day clash thanks to hundreds from Murali Vijay and Tom Westley and Mullaney heaped praise on the victors.
Notts have fallen to fifth in the table as a result of the defeat whilst Essex have replaced the home side in third place.
