Joe Clarke hit Nottinghamshire’s first century of the year as the hosts enjoyed a productive day in the middle against Leicestershire at Trent Bridge.
The right-hander produced a complete performance with the bat, scoring fluently around the ground in a knock that included 21 boundaries as Nottinghamshire brought the curtain down on their pre-season preparations.
Clarke was ably supported by his skipper, with Steven Mullaney hitting 45 in a 131-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Tom Moores (64) and Samit Patel (40) added late flurries of their own as Notts posted 370 on the second and final day of the friendly encounter.
Under cloudy skies, Chris Nash and Haseeb Hameed formed a new opening partnership for the Green and Golds, before the latter departed in the fourth over to Tom Taylor.
Ben Duckett joined Nash, and showed that his time in England’s ODI training group had not diminished his skills against a new red ball.
The left-hander looked composed in making 21 from 41 balls, whilst his partner found the boundary with regularity before being caught behind off Dieter Klein for 31.
Duckett was adjudged lbw to Klein four overs later, leaving Notts 64-3 as Mullaney joined Clarke in the middle.
The duo were watchful at first, with a number of dot balls interspersed with the occasional shot over the shorter boundary in front of the Smith Cooper Stand. A hooked maximum off Klein by Clarke was the pick of the bunch before the lunch break.
The pair brought up their half-century stand early in the afternoon session, Clarke scoring at a lower strike-rate than his skipper at this stage as Notts stemmed the flow of wickets.
The England Lions batsman took more of the strike as the afternoon wore on, moving to his own fifty from 75 balls before beginning to accelerate towards three figures.
Clarke weathered the loss of his skipper (45) and Peter Trego (5), recording his fourth home century since joining Notts ahead of the 2019 season.
Tom Moores accompanied Clarke through the final 25 runs of his innings, before the centurion retired on the stroke of tea for 110.
Samit Patel joined Moores after the interval, both attacking with greater impunity as afternoon turned to evening.
Patel hit 40 from 43 balls, scoring freely off his pads before falling lbw to Gavin Griffiths.
Meanwhile, Moores displayed his trademark power and bat-speed, with a swipe over the leg-side boundary shortly before reaching his half-century the pick of an array of aggressive strokes.
The wicketkeeper-batsman lost his off-stump to Griffiths having made an entertaining 64, before Joey Evison (12) and Liam Patterson-White (16) spent 30 deliveries apiece in the middle during the belated last of the pre-season knockings for 2020.
Nottinghamshire will reignite another local rivalry at the weekend, with Derbyshire the visitors for Trent Bridge’s inaugural fixture in the Bob Willis Trophy.
