Nottinghamshire staged a dramatic display of dominance on the first day of the Second Eleven Championship encounter against Northamptonshire, racking up 335 runs for the loss of three wickets, with an unbeaten 142 for Ben Compton, and half centuries for Joey Evison, continuing his comeback from injury, and Sol Budinger.

Having lost the toss, the Green and Golds amassed 83 for their first wicket, before Matthew Montgomery was adjudged lbw by Nathan Buck for 44.

Compton ploughed on with Evison, however, and reached his half-century on his return from lunch with a late cut through point, one of five boundaries for his fifty.

Evison showed attacking intent of his own, and struck six fours and a six on his way to 62, bringing up Notts’ 200 amidst a partnership worth 131 before he was bowled by off spinner James Cronie attempting to sweep.

With a substantial platform laid bare, Budinger set about further demolition, smashing 14 off the 73rd over to leave notts 271-2.

His fifty arrived in 46 balls, and featured five fours and three sixes, before he was eventually dismissed for 76, bowled by George Gowler while advancing down the pitch in the fourth over of the new ball.

It marked all but the end of the day for Notts, Dane Schadendorf called upon to face just two balls as Compton carried his bat through the day, with action to recommence at Lady Bay on day two.
